Chips, Dips, and Sips

On September 20th, Northeastern University UTSAV held a fundraiser in order to raise money for the upcoming year at The Pour House on Boylston St. There was a gigantic Jenga set, all the appetizers you could possibly eat, and of course, DRINKS!

More than 30 people came to this successful event, and it was a whole lot of fun.

Who says you can't have fun going out on a Tuesday?

A Night With Hari Kondabolu

On Thursday February 17th, Utsav and the Asian Student Union (ASU) teamed up to bring comedian Hari Kondabolu to our very own Afterhours.

Hari is an Indian-American comedian from Queens, NY who connects his Asian-American identity to his career in a funny, informing manner. He has been featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, and John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show on Comedy Central.

Afterhours was already packed even before Hari started his stand-up act which included commentary about his everyday life to hilarious encounters regarding race. After the show there was a short Q&A followed by Hari sticking around to sign posters and hang out with students.

South Asian Week

The week of January 31st marked the beginning of Utsav’s annual South Asian Week. The week also marked one of the snowiest weeks this winter.

Monday was the "Bhopali" movie screening with director Van Maximilian Carlson. Carlson’s documentary shed light on the world’s largest industrial accident and the repercussions it continues to have on the daily lives of people in Bhopal.

On Wednesday, Utsav members braved the cold and sleet to learn how to cook a basic meal. Our E-board’s very own Tanvi Bhandari showed members how to cook a simple, yet delicious potato vegetable dish along with roti.

Finally on Friday, Utsav members sat down with South Asian alumni in an informal discussion about where their Northeastern degree has taken them. The speakers, ranging from entrepreneurs to electrical engineers shared their tips and advice on co-op hunting and other perspectives regarding life after graduation.
Despite Old Man Winter delivering his worst, it did not stop a week of informative and fun events.

Thank you to everyone who attended!

Uno DoughRaiser

Despite the snow, UTSAV members came out in force last Wednesday to attend our fundraising event at Uno on Huntington. The fundraiser provided members with the opportunity to get more acquainted to one another, support their organization, and eat some delicious food. The rattlesnake pasta was particularly good. We hope to have a similar event at CPKs in the future, hopefully when it’s a little sunnier out. With 15% of total sales going straight to UTSAV, the capital raised will be used for critical organization activities including more fundraising, social events, and Nataraj.

Thanks to everybody that came,
Shaun Shah

Halloween Party

On Sunday, October 31st Utsav and Sanskriti joined forces once again to take a new spin on the bi-weekly General Board meeting by hosting a Halloween Party. This fun-filled event took place in 450 Dodge Hall which was decorated with eerie spider webs, and grim tombstones creating a spooky environment sure to give you goose bumps.

Students dressed up in costumes ranging from witches, ghouls, and vampires. Raffles and prizes were given out to the best dressed. There was an unlimited amount of candy and food that energized all the party goers for a successful night of socializing, dancing and an all around good time."

A Night in Asia

Last Friday, the rich culture of Asia was showcased through the event, "A Night in Asia." A variety of student organizations, such as VSA, ASU, Barkada, Phi Delta Psi, KPL, TSA, and UTSAV, collaborated to share with the members of the Northeastern University the true essence of the Asian continent. The paper lantern-adorned CSC Ballroom was filled to capacity with booths that featured games, food, and activities. Special performances by NU Revolve as well as a Lion dance troupe occurred, allowing for a unique experience. Thanks to all who attended!
