Gandhi Day of Service - "Be the Change"

Saturday morning-7:30 am. Exhausted and sleepless for numerous reasons unknown. I looked outside and it was dark and pouring rain. Looking up at the ceiling from under the covers, I wondered why I had to do this.

Frankly, I think I wasted too much time thinking. Thirty minutes and a few phone calls later, Roshni, Prath and I braved against the rain, wind and Prath’s driving skills to the Post Office Square and joined other Northeastern groups on their way to Cradles and Crayons.

Cradles and crayons is Quincy-based non-profit organization that equips homeless and in-need children with the basic essentials they need to feel safe, warm, ready to learn and valued. Our job was simple but so fun. We had to go through bins of clothes and sort them according to season and size; and the bins were endless. We met and bonded with each other and members of the other organizations on campus. We did the ‘awwww’ when we saw super cute outfits that fit only my hands and we also made an assembly line to make things more efficient. Yes, we were a smart lot.

By 12 p.m. when we got done, it didn’t matter that all our socks and shoes were still wet from the rain. The Cradles and Crayons representative said with all the bags we filled, we had helped almost a 100 kids. It felt good.

1st GB and Spiced Cruise

Hello Everybody!

It has been another eventful week for us over at UTSAV. On the 16th, we had our first general body meeting of the year! This was a huge success -- we had a great turnout of over 120 students, and the Curry Student Center Ballroom was a full house! This year, the E-board developed a high-tech icebreaker with the help of the company SCVNGR. Via text message, we created an innovative scavenger hunt that allowed students to look for clues on campus and compete for free Spiced Cruise tickets. The success of the meeting was documented in the Huntington News:

On September 18th, all of the South Asian college students in and around Boston came together for the biggest back to school party. Sponsored by Harvard's South Asian Association, SPICED Cruise was a huge hit! For 3 hours, students danced the night away to the incredible beats of DJ Jay-T and our very own external PR, DJ Armaan. Congrats to everyone who helped make the boat cruise a success!

Welcome Back to Campus!

Hi all!

Welcome to Northeastern University UTSAV! Hope move-in went well and everyone is settled into their classes or co-op job!

We hope you all had a chance to attend one of our Welcome Week events last week! Monday night featured an amazing show of talent and learning during "Bhangra/Hip-Hop Lessons", taught by members of Kinematix and NU Bhangra! Thank you to Jose Avila and Miray Shirakami for their tight Hip-Hop skills and Vinisha Patel, Armaan Gupta, Sagar Velagala, and Suril Sanghvi for their energetic Bhangra steps!

"Night at CSC" took place on Tuesday night, and we had the chance to meet many new faces along with numerous returning members! In case you missed Monday night, you had another chance to learn some smooth dance moves at "Bhangra/Salsa Lessons" in collaboration with LASO and NU Bhangra on Wed night, which attracted a crowd of over 100 people!

Winding down the week were the Activities Fair on Thursday and a FREE FILM NIGHT featuring "Mystic India" in IMAX on Friday. About fifty students came out to the Museum of Science and enjoyed the award-winning IMAX film!

Stay tuned for upcoming events and don't forget to join us at our Annual 1st General Body Meeting on Wednesday 9/16 @ CSC Ballroom from 6-9 pm!
